Mortgage FAQ's

Does using Scout affect my credit score?

Your credit score won’t be impacted until you apply for a mortgage with your chosen lender,at which point the lender will carry out a normal credit check. In the initial stages (when you first see potential mortgage deals and chat with your broker), your credit score won’t be impacted at all.

How many mortgage lenders do you search?

We offer expert advice from over 12,000 mortgages and 90 lenders. With access to exclusive deals not available on the high street!

How much does your service cost?

There may be a fee for mortgage advice. The actual amount you pay will depend upon your circumstances. The fee is up to 1% but a typical fee is £549.

Your broker will discuss any potential fees with you during your first meeting, which is free and with no obligation.

Insurance (protection) carries no fee at all, and you don’t have to choose a mortgage through us in order to choose insurance.

Do I have to use you?

No, all initial appointments are free and come with absolutely no obligation. You’ll only pay the broker fee when you want to apply for your chosen mortgage.

Do you charge for an Agreement in Principle?

No, Agreements in Principle are absolutely free. Lenders do not charge for Agreements in Principle.

Why should I buy insurance from you instead of going direct?

Many protection products and benefits aren’t available to customers who go to insurers direct. That’s because some products (like income protection) can only be sold with advice and recommendation.

Can Scout help me get exclusive rates?

Yes! As part of Mortgage Advice Bureau network, UK's largest mortgage network, we can access many exclusives and semi-exclusive rates that you can’t get directly from the lenders.

How long does the process take?

When you’ve seen your initial potential mortgage deals online with Scout, you’re free to book an initial appointment with your Scout broker for a time that suits you.

Your initial appointment can take up to thirty minutes. Your broker will advise you on how long the whole process may take, as it depends on your personal situation and the housing market at the time.

How much can I borrow?

How much you can borrow depends on your circumstances. During your initial appointment, your mortgage broker can tell you what you’re likely to be able to borrow with multiple lenders.
