Frequently asked questions

Does using Scout affect my credit score?

Your credit score won’t be impacted until you apply for a mortgage with your chosen lender,at which point the lender will carry out a normal credit check. In the initial stages (when you first see potential mortgage deals and chat with your broker), your credit score won’t be impacted at all.

How many mortgage lenders do you search?

We search more than fifty different lenders and thousands of potential mortgage deals. The number of lenders we search is reflective of the whole market, and we have further access to smaller and specialist lenders if your situation needs special consideration.

We also have access to multiple market-leading insurance companies, so we can find mortgage insurance that suits you.

How much does your service cost?

Your one-off broker fee is a lifetime service fee, which is only payable at application. This means you’ll only pay it once, no matter how many times you use us. The fee will be between £100 and £449, depending on the amount of work that your case involves. £449 is the standard fee for ‘normal’ cases, but simple cases may cost significantly less. An admin fee, currently £50, will apply to all applications.

Your broker will discuss any potential fees with you during your first meeting, which is free and with no obligation.

Insurance (protection) carries no fee at all, and you don’t have to choose a mortgage through us in order to choose insurance.

What does ‘lifetime service fee’ mean?

‘Lifetime service fee’ means you’ll only pay the broker fee once. Every time you use Scout in the future your broker fee will be waived, no matter how many times you move. All you’ll pay is the admin fee (currently £50). Our commitment to lifelong financial advice means we can get to know you and your unique needs, so you’re supported with great mortgage advice wherever life takes you.

Do I have to use you?

Do you charge for an Agreement in Principle?

No, Agreements in Principle are absolutely free. Lenders do not charge for Agreements inPrinciple.

Why should I buy insurance from you instead of going direct?

Many protection products and benefits aren’t available to customers who go to insurers direct. That’s because some products (like income protection) can only be sold with advice and recommendation.

Can Scout help me get exclusive rates?

Yes! As part of PRIMIS Mortgage Network, one of the largest networks in the UK, we can access many exclusives and semi-exclusive rates that you can’t get directly from the lenders.

How long does the process take?

When you’ve seen your initial potential mortgage deals online with Scout, you’re free to book an initial appointment with your Scout broker for a time that suits you.
